Location based AR - New concept of Augmented Reality

Nowadays, the concept of location-based AR becomes very popular in the market. Augmented Reality (AR) implements in all most all industries like jewellery, furniture, real estate, automation, etc. The industries use AR as per their need and gain more benefits.

What is Location-based AR?

Augmented Reality is the combination of digital information with the user’s real-time environment. AR uses the real-time environment to put new information on top of it. Location-based AR is similar in some like normal AR. Location-based AR means markerless, location-based, and geographical-based augmented reality.

As per term, Location-based AR does not need a special marker to identify the location of virtual objects. It works with the use of technologies like GPS, accelerometer, digital compass, etc. to identify a device's location and position with accuracy.

How does it work?

Location-based AR is working on the information taken from GPS, accelerometer, digital compass, etc., and places the virtual data that place in a real environment. It is a marker-less AR so, it works on indoor and outdoor navigation. Outdoor AR uses the data of GPS, while indoor navigation identifies the current location of mobile with bacon.

Areas where Location-based AR can implement?

  • Tourism: Location-based AR improves the traveling experience of the tourist to discover new places in real-time mode with an effective navigation path.
  • Healthcare: Location-based AR improves the healthcare and medical industry by providing the details of the nearest hospitals and the best routes to them.
  • Advertisement: We know that AR uses to promote the product, but when one can see the perfect path or navigation of a particular product then it will create more impact on the user for that product. This can be done with the use of location-based AR.
  • Entertainment & Gaming: Pokémon Go game is the best example of Location-based AR games. It provides more engagement to the users and ultimately drives to entertain the user.
